Finding family, fulfillment, and a future in the Northern Territory

If you’re ready for a teaching adventure that can transform your career — and your life — Rosie’s story might be the inspiration you need.

Originally from Vietnam, Rosie spent nearly a decade teaching in international schools before deciding to take a leap of faith. “I came to Australia on a backpacker visa and quickly fell in love with Darwin — the tropical weather reminded me so much of home,” she says.

That leap took her to Charles Darwin University, where she completed her Master of Teaching. It also brought her two daughters to Australia, where they’ve all set down roots in Darwin. “It was a big step, both professionally and personally.”

Over the past six years, Rosie has made the most of life in the Territory — afternoon bike rides, weekend market visits, school holiday road trips, charter fishing, and even a hot air balloon trip over the Red Centre.

Her teaching placement at a local school was a turning point, giving her invaluable classroom experience — and introducing her to her life partner, a chapter she describes as “truly special.”

Now thriving as a secondary teacher at Darwin Middle School, Rosie says “it’s a fantastic place to teach, with dedicated staff, inspiring students, and a strong focus on STEM education.”

Outside of school, she enjoys more bike rides with her daughters and their energetic dog CC, fishing off the wharf, and soaking up the dry season vibes.

“Teaching in the NT has been an exciting and rewarding adventure. It’s a place where culture, community, and nature come together – and where passionate educators can truly make a difference.”

If you’re looking for a meaningful move, follow Rosie’s lead — and see where teaching in the Territory can take you.
